Astragalus
One of the ultimate Qi tonics of the Taoist herbal system, astragalus has a rich history of use in Asian cultures; it is native to China, Mongolia, and North Korea.
As an immune system tonic, astragalus tonifies what the Chinese call 'Wei Qi' or 'protective Qi,' which is the energy that runs just below the surface of the skin.
Astragalus is one of the few herbs that is recommended for kids and is a useful tonic to have in the family home apothecary to assist in keeping the immune system strong.
Traditionally used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to:
- Help improve immune system function
- Help increase vitality
- Relieve weariness/feeling of weakness
Contraindications: None known. Not to be consumed when experiencing acute fever or during acute phases of a cold or flu. No studies have determined astragalus' safety for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Only use during pregnancy and breastfeeding under the supervision of an experienced healthcare practitioner.
